What would getting care involve?

Think of a visit as a conversation about a health need. A product choice can come later.

Make room for your history

Have a list of your current medicines, past treatment and the problem you want help with.

If a question on the health questionnaire does not fit your situation, write down what needs explaining.

A private place and a short question list can make a remote conversation easier.

The clinician needs room to ask more

A clinician is the person who assesses or treats you.

The Federation of State Medical Boards is a group of state medical boards, and it publishes care guidance.

Its guidance was checked in September 2026: treatment decisions require more than a tick-box questionnaire.

It also says that choosing a medicine from a list cannot replace a proper assessment of your health.

The guidance also calls for patients to have a way of asking their clinician more questions.

Ask who reviews your answers, how they ask for missing information and how you can ask questions yourself.

The group’s advice is a care recommendation, not a New York law. New York’s own rules decide what a service must do.

A screen does not bypass New York rules

As of September 2026, New York requires the professional licence or authorization needed for the service, including care delivered remotely.

Ask whether the clinician is authorized to treat you while you are in New York.

If you will be elsewhere during the visit, mention that before it begins.

The patient’s location matters when working out which state’s licence rules apply.

Tests depend on the assessment

Medical-board guidance says that when an assessment calls for a test or in-person examination, the clinician needs to arrange it or refer the patient.

Ask what any proposed test would answer and how you would receive its result.

Then ask who handles the next conversation.

According to the guidance, a remote visit must meet the standard of care expected when patient and clinician meet in a room.

Be clear about the next step

Could the service explain what happens if the clinician does not prescribe?

Could it explain how to reach the clinician afterwards and what follow-up costs?

Those answers belong in the conversation before a recurring payment.
