Who would assess you?

Where can I look in Manhattan?

Begin by discussing your health concern with a medical practice. Then compare an office visit with care by video or phone.

An in-person conversation

If you already see a doctor, ask that office whether it can assess your concern or suggest a practice that can.

If you have insurance, ask the plan for practices in Manhattan that assess that health problem, and ask each practice whether it accepts your plan.

For a visit in a room, ask a licensed medical practice whether it assesses the condition you want help with.

Ask who would see you, what they are qualified to do and whether an injection is even part of the discussion.

Open with your health concern before bringing up an advertised product.

  • Who carries out the assessment?
  • What happens if no medicine is offered?
  • How do follow-up visits work?

A remote conversation

Telehealth is care received through an online exchange, phone call or screen.

As of September 2026, New York telehealth rules preserve the licence requirements that apply to care in person.

A clinician is the person who assesses or treats you.

Ask which clinician will review your history and how you can ask them further questions.

Medical-board guidance says the clinician needs enough information to assess you and must be able to ask you further questions.

Ask what happens if a phone call or questionnaire leaves a health question unanswered.

Look inside the source drawer

New York’s telehealth law includes phone calls, but email or text messages alone do not count as telehealth under that law.

Check the person, then the pharmacy

The New York State Education Department offers a public search for professional licences and registered pharmacies.

For a doctor or physician assistant, also check the Department of Health’s record of penalties, official orders and accusations about professional conduct.

The licence search shows whether the person is licensed; the separate conduct record shows those public penalties, orders and accusations.

Look inside the source drawer

A licence record shows whether someone is licensed; it does not tell you how well they will care for you.

Leave with a name to check

Can the service tell you who would prescribe and which pharmacy would supply the medicine?

Write those names down before comparing the next option.

That is a more useful comparison than a polished page or a hurried yes.
